As with any family, ours is not the typical Caucasian family dynamic. We began with my husband as the traditional breadwinner while I was finishing my college education. It was planned that we both would be working in careers before we discovered I was pregnancy with our first son. Three months later my spouse would suffer a great tragedy and was no longer able to walk, much less work. Giving Bad Advice Essay My cousin Madison turned 14 years old last year and I visit her, my aunt and uncle on a weekly basis. I like it there better because, like myself, they would rather take a trip to the beautiful mountains to ski, or go to the beach to catch big waves rather than stay home watching T. V. As a kid, my family traveled whenever they got the chance because my mom worked for a travel agency and received great discounts. Our family took trips to great places such as beautiful San Francisco and Las Vegas. When the economy plummeted, my parents lost their jobs and couldn’t afford to anymore. My Dad hates to spend money so we don’t go anywhere that revolves around that subject. My Aunt loves to take vacations which is something that is always enjoyable because being at home can get quite boring. The down side of going over my Aunts house is that my little cousin and I bicker and argue constantly because she seems to always think she’s right and that the world is all sunshine and rainbows. We do get along most of the time and but have our moments from time to time and that is a fact of life, I don’t mind dealing with it when I have to. This past year we traveled to many places, such as Universal Studios and the beach, but since it’s the time of year where the beautiful white snow we love comes falling down from those great big snow clouds, we took a trip to the mountains and went skiing. Skiing is one of our favorite things to do when winter comes around. I am getting better at it every year we go. My Dad taught me how to ski as a kid and since then I have been skiing as long as I can remember. On the way to Massanutten ski resort, my excitement was as high as it could be since we haven’t been in years. My cousin Madison is still a beginner and doesn’t like to listen to anyone who tries to give her advice on how to get better and eventually go to the bigger slopes. She always skied with her Dad because he likes to go down the easy and slow hills with her and lets her do her thing without him talking and messing up her focus. The greater and lengthier slopes are a lot more exciting than the bunny hills so I tried to convince Madison to go with us to the bigger hills. She knew that she could do it but the fear grew inside her head. It was very hard and frustrating to get her to overcome her fear. When Madison finally decided to face her fear and come over to the bigger slopes, we all went up on the lift to the top. At the top she seemed a little scared but she had everyone there with her assuring she would be safe and sound. We started skiing down and it appeared as if she forgot everything she was taught. She fell over and her skis came off and she seemed shaken up about it. I skied down to her and tried to give her the best advice possible on how to get up, put the skis on and the best route to take the rest of the way down the slope. Since she didn’t like to listen to anyone that isn’t a ski instructor, so she wouldn’t get up the way I taught her to. Popcorn pops because each popcorn kernel is special. Heres a look at what makes popcorn different from other seeds and how popcorn pops. Why It Pops Popcorn kernels contain oil and water with starch, surrounded by a hard and strong outer coating. When popcorn is heated, the water inside the kernel tries to expand into steam, but it cannot escape through the seed coat (the popcorn hull or pericarp). The hot oil and steam gelatinizes the starch inside the popcorn kernel, making it softer and more pliable. When the popcorn reaches a temperature of 180 C (356 F),  the pressure inside the kernel is around 135 psi (930 kPa), which is sufficient pressure to rupture the popcorn hull, essentially turning the kernel inside-out. It wasnt until two students and their mothers (one Mormon and one Catholic) file a suit against the school district. They argued that these practices were against the Establishment Clause of the First Amendment. As the suit was pending the school district then decided to take action by making a different policy. In the new policy there were going to be two student elections. The first was to determine whether prayers should be deliver at games, and the second, a student was to be elected as the spokesman. A functionalist would also argue â€Å"social structures are based mainly on shared values† (Bryn & Lie, 201 2, p. 12). That would explain gangs, cliques, and groups among peers. Mass media is one of the biggest social influences.All individuals have access to mass media in some form . TV, internet, social networking, advertising, videos, newspapers and books are just a few of the forms of mass media, which we are surrounded by. Media influences how individuals think they should view themselves; fat, skinny, popular, rich, different etc. Media also influences what we view as norms; fashion, technology, hair, engage, posture etc. With both norms and views individuals are faced with expectations of society. For example if you want to look rich and sophisticated you must drive an expensive car and wear expensive clothing.If you want to have an attractive boyfriend you must wear reveling clothing, act provocatively and be very thin. These are expectations that have been placed upon individuals by the mass media, and although they are not always true, they are viewed as the way that society works. When you cannot fit into size O pants your understanding of self will be shaped as well because according to he media you will not be able to be successful and marry an att ractive man, get a great paying job, own a house and start a family.All that is influenced from the media and shaped your understanding of what you can achieve in life and where you stand within society. By looking at all the different type of agents of solicitations it is easy to see how individuals are shaped based on the agents they are exposed to. Each agent has their own job in shaping individuals and teaching them lessons. The agents of colonization; family, school, peers, and media are what influence and shape our understanding of society and ourselves.
